FAQ ABOUT FISHING FOR CATFISH

WITH NORTH TEXAS CATFISH GUIDE SERVICE

Frequently Asked Questions About Texas Catfishing With North Texas Catfish Guide Service

Q: What lakes do you provide guided catfish fishing trips on (Where are you a catfish guide)?

A: We offer guided fishing trips for catfish only on several North Texas area lakes including Lake Lewisville, Cedar Creek Lake, Grapevine Lake, Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Ray Roberts and the Brazos RIver.

Q: Why do you offer guided catfish fishing trips on so many different lakes?

A: We fish several different lakes for several reasons. The primary reason is these are the lakes that we primarily get requests for guided catfish fishing trips. We also like to move around some to different North Texas Lakes at different times of the year.

Q: What is the best lake for a guided catfish fishing trip?

A: : Our preference for guided catfish fishing trips at most times of the year are Lake Lewisville and Cedar Creek Reservoir however we also do still fish Grapevine Lake, Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Ray Roberts and the Brazos RIver.

Q: When is the best time of the year for a guided catfish fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service?

A: We fish all year around and the catfish bite all year long. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter are all great for catching Texas Catfish? It does not matter what time of the year it is the catfishing is generally good.

Q: What is the best lake for a Trophy Blue Catfish Trip / Trophy Catfishing?

A: Lake Lewisville and Cedar Creek Reservoir are primarily the two lakes that we offer Trophy Blue Catfish Trips on. We don occasion fish Lake Grapevine and Eagle Mountain Lake for Trophy Blue Catfish but our preference for Trophy Blue Catfish Trips is Lake Lewisville and Cedar Creek Lake. The only lake we do NOT fish for Blue Catfish is Lake Ray Roberts because the lake does not have a substantial population of Blue Catfish.

Q: When is the best time of the year for a Trophy Blue Catfish trip?

A: Trophy Catfishing is generally best in November, December, January and February but if you want to catch a big catfish we will always do our best. Most fishermen put their rods and reels away in the winter but the winter catfish bite is excellent and one of our favorite times of the year to catch catfish.

Q: If I catch a big catfish while fishing with your catfish guide service can I keep it.

A: No, we practice trophy catch and release on all Trophy Blue Catfish over ten pounds. If you want to keep the catfish under ten pounds that you catch you are more than welcome to do so. The Trophy Catfish over ten pounds are the brood stock of the lake that keep the lakes stocked and we release these fish for spawning so they can keep the lakes populated and also so they can grow in size and provide more and bigger catfish for us all to catch in the future. We are very firm on this policy and it is not open to negotiation. We will take photos of you with your trophy blue catfish and if your interested in having a replica made we will take measurements and refer you to a replica artist.

Q: How many trophy catfish do you typically catch on a trophy blue catfish trip.

A: Fishing varies from day to day but as a general rule on Trophy Blue Catfish trips the average would be about 5 or 6 Trophy Blue Catfish on a full day trip and the average size is typically between 25 and 35 pounds but bigger fish in the 35-50 Lb range are very common.

Q: How many catfish do you catch on a regular guided catfish fishing trip.

A: We always do our very best to get you catch the most amount of catfish possible on our catfish fishing trips but it varies from day to day. That is why it's called fishing and not catching. We will do whatever it takes to get you on the fish when you fish with North Texas Catfish Guide service and help you catch as many catfish as possible.

Q: How many catfish can I keep from our guided catfishing trip?

A: The limit on catfish in Texas is 25 per person per day (not including the guide) If there are two people on the catfish fishing trip with the catfish guide then you can keep 50 catfish. Again, we practice trophy catch and release on all catfish over 10 lbs so the fish 10 lbs and up we will take photographs of and release.

Q: Will you clean the catfish for us after our guided catfish fishing trip?

A: Yes, if you want to keep the catfish that you catch we are more than happy to fillet and bag your catfish for you at the end of your catfish guide trip, just remember to bring ice and an ice chest to take your catfish fillets home in.

Q: What is a Blue Catfish?

A: Blue Catfish are the bruisers of Freshwater Fishing. They grow easily to 100+ Lbs (A blue catfish that weighed 121 Lbs was caught in Texas on rod and reel in 2004). Blue Catfish is a regional term and in other areas of the United States they are often called Mississippi White Catfish or High Fin Blue Catfish or High Fin Blues. Blue Catfish are not present in all Texas waters but they are in many of the larger Texas lakes and are a great catfish to fish for. They put up a heck of a fight and will really stretch your fishing line. The Blue Catfish can be easily identified by it's straight edge on it's anal fin and it's characteristic blue color, they are also typically much smaller than the channel catfish.

Q: Do you fish for Channel Catfish?

A: Yes, we are happy to fish for channel catfish as well. We generally fish for whatever catfish are biting best at the time whether it is blue catfish or channel catfish.

Q: Where do I meet you for the guided catfish fishing trip?

A: We will meet you at the boat ramp for your guided catfish trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service the morning of your trip. We will contact you prior to the date of your trip with directions and information on where to meet us. We have you meet us at the boat ramp because we get to the lake and launch the boat and catch catfish bait before our clients get there so everything is ready to start fishing when you arrive and we do not waste your time on the water.

Q: What do I need to bring on my catfish fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service?

A: All you need to bring on your guided catfish fishing trip is whatever food or drinks you would like to have for the day, appropriate clothing for the time of year (please remember it is generally cooler on the water than it is on land) and your Texas Fishing License. Make sure to dress in layers and wear extra clothing because you can always remove clothing if you get warm. We will have an ice chest and ice available for your food and drinks on arrival. If your bringing children with you, we also ask that you bring proper fitting life jackets for the children.

Q: Can I bring my own rod and reels with me when I fish with you or my own catfish bait?

A: No, we ask that you leave your own fishing equipment and tackle at home. We will have plenty of bait, tackle and fishing rods available for everyone in the boat and our equipment is specialized for the type of catfish fishing we will be doing that day and rigged appropriately for the style of fishing we will be doing. We want your time on the water to be spent catching catfish and not messing with equipment that is not rigged correctly or suited for the type of fishing we will be doing. As far as catfish bait goes, we have a select few prepared catfish baits and fresh baits that we use and that is all we will use because we have confidence in them, so we ask that you leave your own catfish baits at home.

Q: How many people can we bring on our guided catfish fishing trip?

A: Our boat can fish up to four people comfortably but our preference is to take no more than three clients at any given time. The posted rates are for two people and there is an additional charge for additional people on the catfish guide trips.

Q: Can I bring my children with me on the guided catfish fishing trip?

A: Yes, we are happy to take kid's fishing with us on our catfish guide trips. All we ask is that you bring proper fitting life jackets for the children on your trip and they must be worn at all times while on the catfish boat.

Q: I would like to give a catfish guide trip as a gift, do you offer gift certificates?

A: Yes, we do have catfish guide trip gift certificates available. Please call us at 817-306-0055 or email us for more information at TexasCatfishGuide@sbcglobal.net

Q: I have a large group that I would like to take on a catfish guide trip. Can you do this?

A: Yes, we can accomodate large groups, church groups and corporate guided fishing trips. Please contact us and give us some more information on what your trying to do and how many people will be fishing and we will make arranagements for you with a number of other reputable fishing guides that we work with.

Q: When are you available for a catfish guide trip?

A: Trips are available 7 days a week 363 days a year (we take off on Thanksgiving and Christmas) as long as we are not booked with another client. Just contact us and let us know what days your interested in and we will get you scheduled for a catfish guide trip.

Q: What is required to book a catfish guide catfishing trip and how do I do it?

A: Contact us and let us know what date/dates your interested in and we will let you know if we are available or not and if not provide a list of other possible dates (we reccomend contacting us as far in advance as possible because we book up fast). Once we have set a date we will give you information to send us a deposit to hold the date for your catfish guide trip and that is all there is to it.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad the day of our catfish guide trip?

A: The fish are already wet so they do not care if it is raining or not. As a general rule, usually the worse the weather is the better the fishing is. We want our customers to be comfortable so we will work with you on this but as a general rule the only reason we will cancel a catfish guide trip is if the winds are too high to be on the lake.

Q: What kind of Catfish Bait do you use?

A: As a general rule for catfish bait for rod and reel fishing we use fresh cut bait or shad or Sure Shot Catfish Punch Bait, for jug fishing we will use catfish bait soap, shad or fresh cut bait.
