Ringing
in the new year with some huge catfish. The fish have turned back on.
It is still really hot out but we are managing some nice fish again,
and still we have no rain. The lakes are dropping fast and conditions
are getting bad. I will be running my Lake Lewisville guided catfish
fishing trips out of Tower Bay until further notice. Cedar Creek guided
catfish fishing trips and Lake Texoma guided catfish fishing trips will
still be at the same locations.

December

Fished
today filming a TV show. The fish are trying to get back into a pattern
and we caught a bunch of really good sized box fish from 8-10 lbs but
did not manage any big fish today. I expect things to get back going
again any day now. I have been on a roll with pictures lately but did
not get to take any today because of the TV Cameras rolling. Here is a
picture of me cleaning fish for the TV Crew.

December
28th 2005
Tough
day again on the lake. They fish were shut down on us again. Still way
to hot for this time of year. I did manage to get some fish in the boat
towards the end of the trip including a 26 Lb flathead catfish and a
few 10 Lb blue catfish.

December
27th 2005
Still
a tough day fishing with high winds. We managed one good fish and some
box fish but the warm front has definately effected the fish. The air
temp has been running in the mid 70's and low 80's which is very
unusual for this time of year.

December
26th 2005
We
had a warm front roll in last night and wind was blowing 30+ mile an
hour. Fish were very scattered on Lake Lewisville and we called it a
day early because they bite was bad.
December
25th 2005
Fishing
has been good. We are catching a lot of nice trophy catfish from 20-50
lbs. Fishing has been steady and we have been averaging 5-15 fish a
trip. Here are some from today 12/25/05

December
19th 2005
Trophy
Catfishing has been good as long as the weather is good and nasty. The
blue bird days with warm weather, no wind and no clouds always make
fishing tough in the winter. Fishing will get better the colder it gets
and the nastier the weather gets. We have not been catching a lot of
big fish but have been consistant with the 20-35 lb fish for the last
couple of weeks. We have some dates open still for December and January
if anyone wants to get out on Lewisville on Cedar Creek for some Trophy
Catfish. Here are some photos of some recent blue catfish we have
caught.

December
19th 2005
We
have a new hook we are using for Big Catfish. Mustad 39951 Ultra Demon
Light Wire Circle Hook Size 10/0. This is an EXCELLENT hook for Trophy
Catfish and we have yet to miss a fish with one of these hooks. I have
never been a big fan of circle hooks but these Mustad 39951BLN hooks
have definately changed my mind about circle hooks. If your after
smaller "box fish" the the Mustad Wide Gap Kahle hook seems to perform
better but for Big Catfish this hooks is definately a winner.

December
13th 2005
We
have another cool front scheduled to come through later this week with
more chances of snow. Fishing should be excellent late this week and
through the weekend for Trophy Catfish. We have availability on Friday
and also some openings next week for Trophy Catfish on Cedar Creek,
Lake Lewisville and Texoma.
December
11 th 2005
The
fishing was tough today on the lake. We launched this morning and it
was warm and there was no wind and no clouds, one of those tough blue
bird days. By 11:00 we were all in jeans and t-shirts and were burning
up. I went and caught bait very quickly this morning with no trouble
and had a few minutes to fish on my own before my clients showed up so
I went and anchored up and managed a nice 18 Lb Flathead Catfish. Had a
tough day fishing with my clients and the biggest fish we could manage
was a 14 Lb Blue Catfish, but we landed it on one of my GRX Steelhead
rods so that was fun. Some of my clients have asked me about shad and
how big they get so I snapped a photo of a larger shad that I caught
while catching bait in my cast net this weekend so folks could see just
how big shad get.

December
10 th 2005
The
fishing has really picked up with the cold front we had. We missed a
few days fishing because of the ice and snow and freezing temperatures
(it was 6 degrees yesterday morning) but now that we are back on the
water fishing has been good. We are starting to catch some trophy
catfish and the fish are stacking up well. The fishing should stay good
for the rest of the winter. As a general rule, the fishing for Trophy
Blue Catfish will be excellent as long as the weather is good and
nasty. Typically the worse the weather is the better the fishing will
be. If it is cold and cloudy and rainy and windy fishing is usually
excellent. If it is a bluebird day with clear skies, warm temperatures
and no wind then the fishing will be tough. We managed a 31 Lb blue cat
today and a handful of box fish and also lost another good one.

December
6 th 2005
The
blue catfish bite has been fast and furious. Fishing is excellent right
now and should be good as long things stay cool and we have wind.
Trophy catfish have been scattered but with temps forecasted in the
20's to 30's for the next two days it should stack the fish up and make
the trophy catfishing excellent. Lewisville has been very tough and the
fishing has been poor but should pick up soon. We have some available
dates for December and January for Trophy Catfish Trips.

November
27th 2005
The
wind was blowing 35+ today and I never even launched the boat. Had to
reschedule clients for another day fishing at Lake
Lewisville.
November
26th 2005
Lake
Lewisville was brutal again today. Cedar
Creek is definately the better of the two right now. Blue
Catfish at Lewisville
have lockjaw and are just not biting well. Should have set the juglines
out again today. If we can get a few good days of cold weather the
fishing will pick up and we should start catching some big blue
catfish.
November
25th 2005
Fished
three clients at Cedar Creek today. The fish were biting good anchored
on structure and we caught about 35 box fish from 1-3 pounds and
managed a few bigger fish. We missed as many as we caught because the
bite was so soft. The fish are still trying to transition but things
should get rolling for the big catfish in the very near future. I
decided to set some juglines this morning because the fishing has been
so slow. I had not run any juglines in probably over a year but went
ahead and set out about 10 juglines in mid depths. All of the juglines
got cleaned out except for one which had a blue catfish on the bottom
hook that probably went close to 40 lbs, but it came off at the side of
the boat because I did not have my dip net ready. Would have been nice
to snap a photo of the big blue catfish but we would have thrown the
big catfish back anyway.
November
23rd 2005
Fishing
has still been slow the last few days. The fish are still scattered and
the water temp has not dropped at all. Shad are all over Lake
Lewisville. Fished two clients on Lake Lewisville today and the blue
cat had lockjaw so we went and fished Sure Shot Catfish Punch Bait in
the shallow water. We caught a handful of channel catfish and decided
to call it a day and reschedule when the water temp drops a bit.
November
20th 2005
Fished
clients at Cedar Creek today. Managed a 17 Lb Blue Catfish and a nice
mess of box fish drift fishing in mid depths. Drifting was pretty
steady and the wind was blowing all day so we never tried anchoring on
the blue catfish at all.

November
19th 2005
Fished
two clients at Lake Lewisville today. Fish are still very scattered.
The Blue Catfish see, to be stuck in a perpertual transition and the
water temp has been holding at the same temp for weeks. We need a cool
front to come in and drive these fish into deeper water so we can start
catching som big blue catfish.
November
14th 2005
Fishing
is starting to pick up. We have had a TON of wind that has made things
pretty tough to fish with the wind blowing 30+ miles per hour but we
have had some days here and there where the wind has settled down some.
The fish are very scattered still and have not moved completely into
their fall pattern because of all the warm weather we have had. We are
supposed to have a cold front tonight and the temperatures are supposed
to get into the thirties at night so that should push the fish into the
fall pattern by the end of the week as long as it stays cold. Lake
Lewisville Catfishing has been spurratic. We have managed to catch fish
but we have really had to work for them to catch them. We had a bad day
on Saturday because of the wind but had a decent day yesterday with
about 30 fish. The catfish pattern on the lakes has definately been
strange. Lake Lewisville should continue to get better as the water
temperature drops. Cedar Creek Lake is fishing about the same as Lake
Lewisville right now and we are really having to work hard for the fish
but still catching some good fish here and there and decent numbers.
Things should get significantly better this week. We finally got
Jackies Xpress Boat decaled with the North Texas Catfish Guide Service
Logo. Thanks to Elite Signs and Banners in Corsicana Texas.

Fished
clients at Cedar Creek today. We had a great trip. Caught good numbers
of fish and some good sized fish as well.

October
26th 2005
We
caught some nice fish today. Boated a 17 Lb and lost another good one
that was 25+ at the side of the boat on Lake Lewisville . Cedar Creek
fished better for Numbers today and we managed a nice box of blue
catfish.

October
26th 2005
Fished
two clients at Cedar Creek Lake today and limited out on Blue Catfish
at Cedar Creek Lake. They were all box fish but the clients wanted to
catch some fish to take home for a fish fry. The Cedar Creek Lake water
temperature is dropping quickly, fishing for big texas catfish will
start very soon.
October
25th 2005
Fishing
for blue catfish is starting to really pick up. We had a great day
yesterday on Lake Texoma and caught some Trophy Blue Catfish as well.
We hooked one huge fish that broke us off and had a few other good big
fish runs that we did not get the hook set on. Things are only going to
get better from here.
October
23rd 2005
It
has been a while since we did a news update. Things have been pretty
hectic for us at North Texas Catfish Guide Service. Trophy Blue Catfish
season is upon us. We are starting to catch some big blue catfish on
Lake Lewisville and Cedar Creek Lake. Things will only get better from
here. We still have some dates available for Trophy Blue Catfish trips
for November, December January and February so if your wanting to hook
up with a Trophy Blue Catfish give us a call and book now while we
still have spaces available.
Chad
Ferguson of North Texas Catfish Guide Service is featured in the
November 2005 Issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine an article
titled "Big Blues - A New Breed of Trophy Catfish Hunter Focuses on the
Blue Catfishes Favorite Snack". The Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine
is out to subscribers now and will be on Newstands in November. Here is
a copy of the cover and what the article looks like.
North
Texas Catfish Guide Service is now offering trips at Lake Texoma. If
your looking for a guided fishing trip for catfish at Lake Texoma -
Lake Texoma Catfish Guide Service give is a call at 817-306-0055 or
817-946-1777.
There
is no doubt that Lake Texoma is one of the premier blue catfish lakes
in the country as it holds the Texas State Record Blue Catfish of 121.6
Lbs and The World Record Blue Catfish as well. We are looking forward
to our guided catfish fishing trips at Lake Texoma. Here is a photo of
"splash" the Texas State Record Blue Catfish and World record blue
catfish. At the time that this catfish was caught this was the biggest
catfish ever on record and it came from the Texas Waters of Lake
Texoma. Caught by Cody Mullineaux of Howe Texas on January 16th 2004. *
Please note, we have nothing to do with the catch of the world record
fish, the photo and information is just to show the potential of the
fish to be caught at Lake Texoma.

September
14th 2005
The
Redfish bite at Fairfield is still red hot. If your wanting to catch a
Bull Red then now is a good time to do so. We are also catching
excellent numbers of Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish at Lake
Lewisville and Cedar Creek Lake, and also some Trophy Blue Catfish on
Rod and Reel. The water temperatures are starting to drop and fishing
will only be better from here.
We
are booking now for Fall and Winter Trophy Blue Catfish Trips, and
spaces are filling up fast. Trophy Catfishing will start in October and
will peak in November, December, January and February. If you want an
opportunity to go head to head with a Trophy Blue Catfish then this is
the guided catfish fishing trip for you.
As
the weather cools off, the Trophy Catfishing only gets better. Catching
big Texas Catfish that are 30 and 40 pounds are caught every trip and
fish bigger than 50 Lbs are very common. Texas State Record Catfish
weighs in at 121 Lbs and more big catfish of this size are out there in
our Texas lakes.
Armed
with heavy tackle we ply the wintertime holes of these Trophy Catfish
and put you on these big fish. Our proven track record of catching
these big catfish speaks for it self. Most trips will average 5-6 Fish
in the twenty to fourty pound range but we have had guided catfish
fishing trips for Trophy Blue Catfish where our clients have caught as
many as 23 Catfish over 20 Lbs in one trip.
If
your looking to get your line stretched and catch the catfish of a
lifetime then call now and book a guided catfish fishing trip for
Trophy Blue Catfish! We move around various lakes some on our Trophy
Catfish Trips Based on where the catfish are biting best at the time
but these guided catfish fishing trips will be done on Cedar Creek Lake
and Lake Lewisville. We are now starting to gear up to do some guided
catfish fishing trips on Lake Texoma so we may offer some Trophy
Catfish Trips on Lake Texoma as well.

August
15th 2005
Fishing
is still good at Cedar Creek Lake and Lake Fairfield. We are catching a
lot of nice Redfish and Flathead Catfish and Channel Catfish at Lake
Fairfield and some GREAT Blue Catfish at Cedar Creek Lake. Cedar Creek
is producing some Trophy Blue Catfish and Fairfield is producing some
Trophy Flathead Catfish, Trophy Redfish and Big Channel Catfish. Cedar
Creek Lake produced some big blue catfish last night with a number of
catfish in the 10 Lb Range being caught and several Trophy Catfish
released as well. We did not get a lot of pictures of the weekend but
here are a few photos.
Note: We
release all catfish over 10 Lbs.
August
13th 2005
Fairfield
is still producing some nice Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish. The
Redfish bite was off tonight but 13 Year Old Kyle Keating managed to
catch the biggest fish he has ever caught and Fairfield Produced some
nice Flathead Catfish and Channel Catfish.
August
6th 2005
We fished 2 clients at Lake
Fairfield
on a Guided Fishing Trip For Catfish and Freshwater Redfish. We Caught
19 Channel Catfish, 5 Freshwater Redfish and Several Big Flathead
Catfish on rod and reel. Our Lake
Fairfield Guided Catfish Fishing Trips and Lake
Fairfield Guided Redfish Fishing Trips have been producing a
lot of nice catfish and redfish.
July 27th 2005
We fished 2 clients at Cedar
Creek Lake
Yesterday on a guided catfish fishing trip and limited out on Blue
Catfish and caught several nice Sandbass and Hybrid Bass as well.
Catfishing is good despite the hot weather. If your interested in a
guided catfish fishing trip on Cedar
Creek Lake, Lake
Lewisville, Eagle
Mountain, Ray Roberts or Grapevine
give us a call at 817-946-1777 or 817-306-0055.
We are also now offering guided catfish
fishing trips on Richland
Chambers and Lake
Fairfield.
Many of you have asked about Texoma trips. We will likely running
guided fishing trips for catfish on Lake Texoma in the near future but
we are not at a point yet where we can offer these trips. We also offer
fishing trips for Freshwater Redfish (Red Drum) on Lake Fairfield.
July
27th 2005
Cedar
Creek Reservoir Blue Catfish have been biting good. We have been
catching a lot of catfish on Cedar Creek for the past week, most of the
Blue Catfish have been 1-3 pound box fish. The Catfishing at Cedar
Creek has been slowing down some in the afternoons so we have been
fishing for Sandbass (White Bass) and Hybrids trolling the Hellpet
combo and in the late afternoons and catching a lot of nice sandbass
and hybrids while trolling, the bigger Hybrids have been pretty easy to
come by. Lake Fairfield is still producing some nice Freshwater Redfish
(Red Drum) with several of our clients on our guided fishing trips for
redfish catching Redfish in the 40" range and lot's of good sized
channel catfish in the 3-5 Lb range. I fished three clients on Lake
Lewisville Sunday on a guided catfish fishing trip and we caught three
limits of blue catfish in 3.5 hours and released several blue catfish
in the 5-10 Lb range and also several over 10 lbs. I have been fishing
a new pattern and so far it has been producing some bigger fish. Summer
fishing in Texas is usually pretty tough but this new technique seems
to be producing some bigger catfish.
Below
are a couple of photos of some recent fish including a Lake Fairfield
Redfish (Red Drum) and a monster Buffalo caught at Cedar Creek Lake (by
accident).

July
18th 2005
Blue
Catfish have been biting good at Cedar Creek Lake, mostly box fish 1-5
lbs. Flathead Catfish, Channel Catfish and Redfish are biting good at
Fairfield.
North
Texas Catfish Guide Service fished a client on a guided fishing trip at
Lake Fairfield for Redfish and Catfish. The Redfish bite is still
excellent at Lake Fairfield and at one point there were three redfish
on the lines at one time. We also caught a huge Redfish that measured
41 inches and weighed 29.8 lb.
We have
dates available. We are pre booking for Winter Trophy Blue Catfish
Trips.
July
13th, 2005
The
blue catfish are still biting. It is typically summer fishing and most
of the catfish we are catching are 1-5 Lb box fish and we are catching
good numbers both day and night.
We
have some new techniques we are trying out that seem to be producing
some bigger fish for the summer, but it is still too new for me to be
able to tell if it will be consistant.
We
have had some of our clients inquire about fishing Lake Texoma. We are
not offering guided catfish fishing trips on Lake Texoma at this time
but we may do so in the future. I am going to make a few trips to
Texoma in the next few weeks and do some fishing for blue catfish and
spend some time checking things out and if all goes well we may start
doing soms Lake Texoma Guided Fishing Trips for Catfish.
July
9th, 2005
Fished
Lake Fairfield today for Flathead Catfish and Redfish (Red Drum). We
caught one redfish that went about 30 inches and did not get any
flathead catfish bites. We did catch a nice bunch of big fat channel
catfish however. All in all was a slow day for Lake Fairfield.
July
7th, 2005
Here
are some recent photos from some of our recent guided catfish fishing
trips for Flathead Catfish, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Redfish
(Red Drum). These fish were caught at Lake Fairfield and Cedar Creek
Lake. We still have dates available for Trophy Flathead Trips,
Combination Redfish and Yellow Catfish (Flathead) trips on Rod and
Reel. Channel Catfish Trips and Blue Catfish Trips. We are fishing at
night or early mornings right now.
June 26th
2005
Wore
the sandbass out again today on Eagle
Mountain Lake.
Just like yesterday the smaller fish were on slabs and the bigger
sandbass were all caught on the Hellpet rig. Once the sandbass bite
slowed down some we went rod and reel fishing for Blue Catfish. I had
some shad, perch and gaspergoo from last night and we anchored on one
of my favorite mudflats to catch some blue catfish. The catfish bite on
Eagle
Mountain Lake
was slow but we did catch some nice blue catfish. It was a little early
in the night for fishing shallow water but we did not want to fish
late. I will be back out catfishing on Eagle Mountain Lake in the
morning. I spotted some huge Longnose Gar this evening but all my home
made gar lures were damaged so we did not get to go rod and reel
fishing for gar. Hopefully my gar lures I ordered will be in soon and
we can do some more rod and reel fishing for Longnose Gar. We caught
some nice Eagle Mountain Lake sandbass (Sand Bass, Sandies, White Bass)
and they were all really good sized fish for sand bass. The action on Eagle
Mountain Lake
in the Daytime has been red hot for sand bass and the catfishing on
Eagle Mountain Lake is typical of this time of year. June July and
August are always the worst months of the year for fishing for catfish.
The catfish are really scattered and there is a lot of hunting and
pecking going on to stay in to the fish. We will still be fishing for
blue catfish and I have been baiting some holes for channel catfish on
Eagle Mountain Lake that will produce some good numbers of channel
catfish. I will be fishing the sand bass on Eagle
Mountain Lake
as a backup when needed. The Gar are still producing. I want to put in
another week or two of rod and reel fishing for the longnose gar and if
they continue biting well and we keep staying into the good size gar I
will start doing some guided fishing trips for Gar on Eagle Mountain
Lake and Possibly on Lewisville and Cedar Creek. If I do indeed do the
Gar trips they will be daytime trips because these are sight casting
trips for the gar. Lake Fairfield Flathead Catfish and Redfish (Red
Drum)m have still been slow but the Lake Fairfield Channel Catfish Bite
has been red hot and producing some nice catches of 3-4 Lb Channel
Catfish on Lake Fairfield.
June 25th 2005
I
went and took some kids on a guided catfish fishing trip on Eagle
Mountain Lake today.
We started out locating the Eagle Mountain Lake Blue Catfish on the
sonar in deep water on the ledges of the channel and fished fresh cut
shad and live perch for the Blue Catfish. We caught some really nice
blue catfish on rod and reel and the bite was great but we could not
stay on anchor with all the pleasure boaters and Jet Ski’s running
around the area we were fishing so we option to get off the main lake
and move around some. The blue catfish bite was not very good in other
areas of the lake so my customers opted to go fish for white bass
(sandbass). We did some slabbing with the boat shows around the South
end of the island but most of the Sandbass we slabbed were small fish
so we left the boat shows and went off to do our own thing. I took my
clients out on some of the deeper water on Eagle Mountain Lake and we
trolled the Hellpet rig. The two children in the boat with me caught
161 Sandbass on the Hellpet rig and almost every one of the Sandbass
(white bass) were “keepers” but they opted to throw them all back. I
have no doubt we would have caught more fish than that had I not hung
my Hellpet rig on some timber and broke off and lost both of the rigs
within a minute or so of each other. After I dropped my clients off at
the boat ramp I went and caught some shad and perch in my cast net and
went rod and reel fishing for Flathead Catfish by myself. I got one
good run but missed the hookset because I was not paying attention (hey
you have to sleep sometime).
June
22nd, 2005
We
made a quick trip to Eagle
Mountain Lake
this evening for some more gar fishing. We caught several longnose gar
on rod and reel and one of them was pushing close to 30 lbs or better.
It was the biggest gar we have seen this week. We have not spotted
anymore Alligator Gar on the mudflats but also have not been looking
real hard. The longnose gar we caught were both really nice and the
bigger one fought like crazy. Catching the longnose gar on rod and reel
is a blast. These gar can really strip some line of the fishing reel
and will often come up out of the water like tarpon trying to throw the
hook. We have been using some homemade gar lures that work ok but we
have been having such a good time catching gar that we I ordered some
gar lures this week that are supposed to stay together a lot better. I
am going to spend some more time rod and reel fishing for longnose gar
over the next week and if the bite stays consistant I will start
booking some guided fishing trips for gar at Eagle Mountain.
Once
the gar bite slowed we went and chased the Eagle
Mountain Lake
Sandbass (Sandies or White Bass). I left my cast net in the truck so
there was no Shad to be had so we just decided to slab up some sandies.
Most of the sand bass we were catching on slabs were small so we
switched to the Hellpet Rig and did some trolling on the mudflats. The
Eagle Mountain Lake Sandbass Bite has been excellent.
The
flathead catfish bite and redfish (red drum) bite at Lake Fairfield has
been really off. The channel catfish bite has been excellent though and
we have been catching tons of huge channel catfish on Lake Fairfield.
June 21st 2005
I
fished Eagle
Mountain Lake
again today for Blue Catfish. The catfish bite is still good during the
day and late evening. I did not get to do any Flathead Catfish fishing
or Alligator Gar fishing today. The Blue Catfish on Eagle Mountain Lake
are moving around a lot and we are really having to work to stay on top
of them each day.
June
20, 2005
I
fished for Flathead Catfish again tonight at Eagle
Mountain Lake.
It was a short trip so I did not have a lot of time but I got several
good runs but missed the hookset because I was not paying attention and
was messing with other things.
I
have been talking with the guys at www.catfishcaller.com
this week about the product they have begun manufacturing here in the
United States, “The Clonk”. Their product The Clonk Catfish Caller has
been very popular with Wels Catfish Anglers in Europe for a number of
years. The Clonk is a tool that is used to emit sound waves through the
water which is believed mimics the sound of bait fish being attacked by
feeding catfish. I have heard some good information from some die hard
flathead catfish anglers over the last couple of years but the evidence
at this point seems to be inconclusive.
After
speaking with the manufacturer of The Clonk Catfish Caller (www.catfishcaller.com)
this week they are sending us some of their product to test out on our
Guided Catfish Fishing Trips for Flathead Catfish. We are going to test
The Clonk on our trips and see if we can determine it’s effectiveness.
More information to follow as soon as we do some field testing. It’s a
tough job but somebody has got to do it.
We
were busy today making our Catfish Bait and did not get to do any
fishing. Our catfish bait, Redneck’s Catfish Bait Soap has really taken
off this year and we are having a hard time keeping up with orders. You
can find more information on our catfish bait soap for jug fishing and
trotlines at www.catfishbaitsoap.com
We got a bunch of our juglines built as well today, you can check out
our juglines at www.jugfishing.net
June 19 th 2005
Fished
Eagle
Mountain Lake
this evening for Blue Catfish with clients. The bite was a little slow
but we caught about 25 nice blue catfish on rod and reel fishing fresh
cut shad on main lake points and humps and on shallow flats.
Once
I finished fishing my clients I went and did some fishing on my own for
Alligator Gar. I have been seeing some massive alligator gar on some of
the shallow water flats at night, some of them as big as 6 feet long. I
have caught a lot of gar on rod and reel over the years by accident but
never have fished for them on purpose.
July
and August are supposed to me the best months of the year for Alligator
Gar so I am going to keep fishing for the Alligator Gar and see if I
can catch a few of these big brutes. I did get one good run tonight
from a gar but he snapped my line when I tried to set the hook (I was
fishing with monofilament line). I am going to get some steel leaders
this week and go out and give it a whirl again later in the week.
If
I could consistently pattern these huge alligator gar in the summer I
would start doing some guided gar fishing trips for them that were
catch and release only. Catching these huge alligator gar are a great
fight and they can really strip some line off of a fishing reel.
I
met Josh and Terra Richards from Lakeview Marina on Eagle
Mountain Lake
tonight while I was at the boat ramp. They have really done a great job
at the marina and this is one of the best places to launch on Eagle
Mountain Lake. There is a nice boat ramp that is good and deep unlike
many of the other ramps on Eagle Mountain and there is ample parking
(not like the free Peden Road Boat Ramp on Eagle Mountain Lake where
you have to worry about your car or boat trailer being hit). They also
now have a restaurant available on site that serves Hamburgers and
snacks. If your planning on fishing Eagle Mountain Lake I highly
recommend the boat launch at Lakeview Marina. There is a $10 launch fee
at the marina but it is still one of the cheapest boat ramps on the
lake on the Fort Worth side of the lake.
I
also downloaded the free Eagle Mountain Lake Enhanced Lake Map this
morning from Lowrance Electronics. The enhanced lake map was easy to
install and has a decent detail on the lake structure. The map is a bit
off and there is some structure that is not shown on the map but all in
all things are pretty decent, and the price is right.
I
have been fishing for Flathead Catfish at Eagle Mountain Lake as well
and I have located some good flathead catfish holes that have been
producing well.
June 18 th 2005
I
took the weekend off this weekend from guiding so I could get caught up
on some other things, get several hundred pounds of Catfish Bait Soap
and a bunch of Fish On Flagging Catfish Juglines made, and have some
personal fishing time.
I
decided to beat the heat during the day today and spend some time with
the family so we headed out to the new Cabela’s Fort Worth so I could
pick out a Fathers Day Present. I have made several trips to the Fort
Worth Cabela’s now and have not really had time to include any
information on our website.
Cabela’s
has moved in on the heels of the Bass Pro Shop that opened in Grapevine
Texas several years ago. Cabela’s is located at the intersection of Hwy
170 and I35W in Fort Worth, just a few miles South of Texas Motor
Speedway. The store is easy to get to and luckily traffic is rarely an
issue on this stretch of I35 unless there is a Nascar Race at Texas
Motor Speedway.
As
stated before this is my third trip to Cabela’s Fort Worth, the first
being to the private grand opening, and then shortly after the opening
of the store. Both of the previous trips were on Weekday nights, and
today’s trip on Saturday during the middle of the day. I was a little
shocked at how many cars were in the parking lot when we pulled in,
there is no doubt they are drawing in some huge crowds.
The
Cabela’s Fort Worth store is a great place to pass some time especially
during the Texas Summer when you need to stay cool. There are tons of
exhibits and things for the whole family to look at. Immediately upon
entrance there is a huge walk through aquarium with many species of
fish native to Texas in the fish tank. They have a Flathead Catfish
that is probably 50 lbs that came out of Eagle Mountain Lake, and
numerous smaller Blue Catfish, Crappie, Bass, Carp, Perch and other
fish in their tank. It was a little crowded trying to get through the
tank area but not too bad. In the middle of the store there is a huge
mountain with all kinds of stuffed (taxidermy) animals on the mountain
and you can walk all the way around and look at everything and there
are several ponds around the base of the mountain with fish in them. On
the right hand side of the Cabela’s Fort Worth store is a huge display
of Exotic Animals with Lions, Elephants, Hyena and other exotic game.
The display is remarkable and really meticulously designed, On the left
side of the store is a huge Trophy Room with numerous displays of
Trophy Deer, and is another site to behold, all in all just the
displays alone are worth the trip to Cabela’s Fort Worth Store. There
is also a restaurant upstairs and a candy shop with fresh fudge and
candy.
As
far as merchandise goes, you could definitely drop some serious money
in here, it’s a toy store for the outdoorsman. The store has a
different feel than most of the other outdoor stores in North Texas as
it is not all geared towards Bass Anglers, it is more of a
multi-species stores. I think that this being Cabela’s first venture
into Texas they are going to have a learning curve to make sure they
have everything they need in stock but all in all the selection is
great. That being said, they stock a number of items that you cannot
get anywhere else in North Texas.
There
selection of catfish fishing rods is great, there are very few stores
that stock 8’ and 9’ catfish rods and Cabela’s has them all covered and
then some. I have been buying my catfish rods by mail order for several
years now because nobody in the area has these bigger rods. Cabela’s
stocks the Eagle Claw Cat Claw, The Cabela’s King Kat Catfish Rod and
the King Kat Pro Catfish Rod, The Eagle Claw Water Eagle, Shakespeare
Ugly Stik, and the Whuppin Stick which is Cabela’s version of the Ugly
Stik Rods, and the Berkley Glow Stick. The Whuppin Stick is very
moderately priced and seems to be a great rod for the money. I bought
two 9’ Medium Light action spinning rods for fishing Rip Rap Catfish a
few weeks ago and have been very pleased with them to this point. I
believe that all of the above mentioned catfish fishing rods are
available in 8’ and 9’ models and they have good selections of all of
them, not just one of each catfish fishing rod but good stock of all of
them.
They
stock Ande Monofilament but there is a limited selection. They do not
have the Ande Monofilament in Hi Vis Green or Tournament Yellow 20 Lb
test that we use but we asked and they said they should have some
shortly. I have been wanting to try the Sufix Siege Fishing Line in
Neon Tangerine Color for a while now and although they do carry the
Sufix Siege they did not have the Neon Tangerine color.
The
Cabela’s Fort Worth has a great selection of catfish hooks. Hooks for
catfishing are difficult to find at times and they seem to have a good
selection of a lot of different hooks, including the Eagle Claw Kahle
Hook, the Daiichi Circle Chunk Light, the Cabela’s King Kat hook, Eagle
Claw Circle Hooks and Mustad Circle Hooks as well as a good selection
of Treble Hooks.
Their
selection of commercial prepared catfish baits (stink baits and dip
baits) were all catfish baits I have never used. The do stock the
Junnies Cat Tracker line of Catfish Baits including Junnies Cat Tracker
Wicked Sticky dip bait. I have never used this bait but know it has a
pretty good following.
All
in all I think the store is great, I am thoroughly impressed. I think
once they get up to speed and have some time to get figured out what
they need here in Fort Worth Texas the store will be a huge success.
They have a 5 Acre lake with boat ramp and boat dock outside the store
so I am sure there will be some seminars and demonstrations at the
store in the near future.
I
ended up with a Navionics Hot Maps Classic Edition Mapping Chip for my
Lowrance LCX15MT Sonar/GPS and a pair of Keen Newport H2 Sandals for
Fathers Day. I have been holding out on getting the Navionics Hot Maps
chip for a while now waiting for Lake Lewisville, Eagle Mountain Lake
and Grapevine Lake to be added but recently saw the Navionics chip in
action on Cedar Creek Lake and decided to go ahead and get the chip for
Cedar Creek. Hopefully they will add the other lakes that we offer our
guided catfish fishing trips in the future and we can get a new chip.
he
trip to Cabela’s Ft Worth is worthwhile and a great place to stock up
on fishing gear. We will likely be doing some seminars at Cabela’s in
the near future.

Went
fishing at Eagle
Mountain
Lake this evening for Flathead Catfish and Blue Catfish. This was a
short pleasure trip and the Flatheads were not biting but we did catch
some nice Blue Catfish at Eagle Mountain Lake. If your looking for a
quick fishing trip that is close to the Fort Worth area then give us a
call about our Guided Catfish Fishing Trips on Eagle Mountain Lake,
your Eagle Mountain Lake Fishing Guide Service.
We
have been getting a lot of calls recently about lodging and cabins on
the lakes we fish in North Texas as well as camping at the Lakes we
fish in North Texas. Many of you have been wondering where you can stay
when fishing with North Texas Catfish Guide Service. I will try and get
a web page added in the near future with information on lodging at the
North Texas Lakes we fish.
Here
is a quick rundown : Cedar Creek Lake has cabins for rent on the water,
hotels and motels in nearby Gun Barrel City, and Camping and RV Parks
on and around the Lake. Eagle Mountain Lake has cabins available on the
water, camping and RV Parks and hotels and motels in nearby Lake Worth.
Lake Lewisville has camping and RV Parks available on the water and
hotels and motels in Nearby Lewisville. Lake Grapevine has camping and
RV parks available on the water, lodging in Grapevine and hotels at
nearby Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World Grapevine and the Gaylord Texas
Hotel in Grapevine. The Gaylord Texan is a short walk from Grapevine
Lake. We fish a number of corporate and large group trips at Lake
Grapevine for clients staying at the Gaylord Texan. Lake Fairfield has
camping available on the water. Richland Chambers Reservoir has cabins
and camping available on the water and hotels and motels in Corsicana
Texas. Lake Ray Roberts has camping available on the water, and a hotel
on the water, and hotels and motels are available in Aubrey, Pilot
Point Denton and Sanger.

We
are still doing great on our guided catfish fishing trips on Lake
Fairfield. The yellow catfish bite and redfish (red drum) bite has been
excellent for the last several weeks. We have been doing a lot of Red
and Yellow trips on Lake Fairfield fishing for Redfish and Flathead
Catfish. We have caught a lot of huge redfish (red drum) and flathead
catfish (yellow catfish) on our guided fishing trips at Lake Fairfield.
We
have been getting a lot of questions about our guided fishing trips for
Redfish. Most people associate redfish (red drum) with coastal fishing
but there is some great opportunities for redfish (red drum) in
freshwater in Texas. The Texas Freshwater Redfish are stocked in Lake
Fairfield and Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir along with a number of other
lakes in Texas. The Freshwater Redfish (Red Drum) are stocked annually
in these lakes but do not reproduce. The Redfish (Red Drum) grow to
huge sizes in Lake Fairfield and Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir.
The
other question we get about fishing for Freshwater Redfish (Red Drum)
is “I thought you guys were catfish guides”. Yes, North Texas Catfish
Guide Service does fish for catfish primarily but we are a sucker for a
good fight. The Redfish (Red Drum) is well known for its fight, once
one of these Redfish (Red Drum) comes along and grabs a hold of the end
of your line there is no doubt about it. You take the fishing rod from
the fishing rod holder with the bait clicker screaming, set the hook on
a giant Redfish (Red Drum) and just hold on, while the fish strips drag
off the fishing reel.
The
fishing opportunities at Lake Fairfield are excellent for Redfish (Red
Drum) Flathead Catfish (Yellow Catfish) and Channel Catfish are
Excellent. If your looking for a guided fishing trip for flathead
catfish on Lake Fairfield, a guided fishing trip for channel catfish on
Lake Fairfield, or a guided fishing trips for Redfish (Red Drum) on
Lake Fairfield, then contact North Texas Catfish Guide Service, your
Lake Fairfield Fishing Guides.
North
Texas Catfish Guide Service also offers guided fishing trips for
Redfish (Red Drum) on Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir, located a short
drive East of Waco Texas. Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir provides
excellent opportunities for fishing for Redfish (Red Drum) on Central
Texas, so if your looking for a Central Texas Guided Catfish Fishing
Trip for Redfish (Red Drum) on Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir contact
North Texas Catfish Guide Service.
Flathead
Catfish provide the best opportunity in the summer for fishing for a
Trophy Catfish on Rod and Reel. If your wanting to catch a big Texas
Catfish in the Summer then one of our Flathead Catfish trips are for
you. Trophy Catfish on Rod and Reel with North Texas Catfish Guide
Service will put a good stretch in the fishing line and a good bend in
the fishing rod. We practice catch and release on all Flathead Catfish
over 10 Lbs just as we practice catch and release on all blue catfish
over 10 lbs. Big Texas Catfish on Rod and Reel with North Texas Catfish
Guide Service, the premier fishing guides in Texas for Trophy
Catfishing.

We
fished today on Lake
Lewisville
for Blue Catfish with a television camera man and host filming a
fishing TV show about catfishing in North Texas with North Texas
Catfish Guide Service. The wind was howling on Lake Lewisville. The
weatherman had forecasted winds 10-12 miles per hour and I am pretty
sure it was blowing at least 25 MPH. We caught bait easily at the
beginning of the trip in 20-25 feet of water and caught some NICE shad.
A whole net full of shad that were all 6+ inches long, perfect for cut
bait. We started fishing shallow water on a windblown bank at first
light and caught 4 sandbass in a row and then one dink channel catfish
so I pulled anchor and we moved. We fished the rip rap using kahle
hooks and a split shot tipped with shad for spawning channel catfish
but for some reason the bite was just not on. We did not dedicate a
whole bunch of time to fishing the rip rap for spawning channel catfish
because we were on a race against time since the camera crew only had
until 10:00. We went out on two of the main lake humps and marked
active blue catfish on the edge of the hump, tossed out a marker and
not so much as a bite. We decided to do some drift fishing on one of my
favorite mudflats on Lake
Lewisville
with some good humps on it fishing with cut shad and live perch and did
not get so much as a bite. I was marking active fish all on the edges
of the humps but we had no takers. Then we were headed back into the
old lake I noticed blue catfish pushing up a school of shad on my
Lowrance LCX15 and quickly tossed out a marker buoy. We threw some
fresh cut shad out around the marker buoy and started catching blue
catfish immediately. We only had about twenty minutes left but we
reeled in about 10 or 12 box fish over the course of the twenty minutes
before we had to go. We are going to film again in 3 weeks and try to
get into some Trophy Blue Catfish and also probably do some filming on
Jug Fishing for Catfish. Today was the first time I have been on the
water during the day in about 6 weeks since we have been night fishing
for Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish. We will be back
on Cedar Creek this week and this weekend night fishing for blue
catfish on our guided catfish fishing trips. We also will be fishing
Lake Fairfield on our “Red and Yellow” trips fishing for Redfish (Red
Drum) and Flathead Catfish (Yellow Catfish).

Fished
a ½ day trip today on Lake
Grapevine.
This is the 1 st half day trip I have done all year but these folks
were in town staying at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center
and wanted to go on a Lake Grapevine guided fishing trip with North
Texas Catfish Guide Service and did not have a lot of time. The shad
were stacked up really thick on the mudflats when I got on the water at
Lake Grapevine to catch bait but right at dark they scattered. We
caught some blue between one and four pounds that were all released. I
did not get a final total but I think we probably caught about 30
catfish.
June 10 th, 2005
I
Fished Eagle Mountain Lake today for Blue Catfish. I did not have
clients booked and had been wanting to get back out on Eagle
Mountain
to see if I could get back into the Flathead Catfish on Eagle Mountain.
I only fished for a couple of hours and the bite was slow but I did get
one good flathead run but missed the hook set because I was not paying
attention.

North
Texas Catfish Guide service limited out on
Cedar Creek Lake blue catfish today.
I
did a fishing report and radio interview today with Luke Clayton.
Luke is a well known and respected outdoor writer in Texas and also a
popular radio host. Featured with North Texas Catfish Guide Service on
this show will be fishing for Blue Catfish with North Texas Catfish
Guide Service on Cedar Creek Lake. If you have never caught his radio
show on The Ranch radio stations you should tune in to Hardcore Outdoor
Talk with Luke Clayton. Luke Clayton presents a lot of great Texas
Hunting and Fishing information on his Hardcore Outdoor Talk Radio
Show. Luke Clayton’s Hardcore Outdoor Talk airs on Saturday mornings
from 8-9 a.m.
We
had a guided catfish fishing trip on Cedar
Creek Lake
on the night of 6/7. One client fished on this guide trip and caught
his limit plus another 17 that were thrown back after he caught his
limit.
I
did an interview this morning with Matt Williams, Texas Outdoor Writer
that writes for numerous newspapers and fishing magazines in Texas.
Matt is doing an article on Trophy Catfishing in Texas for Trophy
Blue Catfish
and also including some information on the new world record blue
catfish. I am not sure which fishing magazine this will appear in yet
but will add the information to the website when I know.
North
Texas Catfish Guide Service will be filming a television show on
fishing for Blue Catfish and Channel Catfish on Lake
Lewisville
on Monday June 12 th 2005. I am not sure of the airing date on the show
yet but will add the information to the website when I get all of the
information. The show will air locally in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
We have not been spending a lot of time on Lake
Lewisville
recently because we have been fishing Cedar Creek Lake so much so we
will be fishing two guided catfish fishing trips on Lake Lewisville
this weekend and pre-fishing for the television show on Monday.
Featured in the show I believe will be rod and reel fishing for blue
catfish, rod and reel fishing the rip-rap for spawning channel catfish
and jug fishing for blue catfish with our Fish On Flagging Catfish
Juglines.
We
just got in a new package of catfish
fishing equipment
from Berkley / Abu Garcia / Pure Fishing through our sponsorship. We
will be trying out the new Berkley Glowstick (Glowstik) Fishing Rods.
These appear to be some great catfish fishing rods. We have been
fishing the Berkley Reflex Fishing Rods for a long time now and have
been really pleased with them. The Berkley Glowstick (Glowstik) Fishing
Rods are built on the same blanks as the Berkley Reflex Fishing Rods so
the have great potential. The Berkley Glowstick (Glowstik) Catfish
Fishing Rods have built in LED Lights built into the rod, and the
entire blank glows in the dark. The handle of the Berkley Glowstick
(Glowstik) holds three AAA batteries and has a switch built into it.
You turn on the LED lights in the Berkley Glowstick (Glowstik) Catfish
Fishing Rod and the rod lights up, and then when you shut the lights
off, the entire blank of the catfish fishing rod glows in the dark.
This appears to be a great fishing rod. I have not had a chance to use
the Glowstik E-Glass Catfish Fishing Rod yet but will post some reviews
and information as soon as I have had an opportunity to put some big
blue catfish in the boat with it. The only downside I see at this point
with the Glowstick (Glowstik) E-Glass Catfish Fishing Rods are that the
handle is quite a bit bigger in diameter compared to the Berkley Reflex
Catfish Fishing Rod and there might be some issues getting it in and
out of the Bee Ready Fishing Rod Holders. I did speak with Rick at Bee Ready Fishing Rod
Holders
and he said that he has designed a tool to spread the loops in the Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holders to accommodate the bigger catfish rods so we
may have to spread out the loops on the Bee Ready Fishing Rod Holders
for the Berkley Glowstick Rods. The only other drawback I see with the
Glowstick E-Glass Catfish Rods is they have different eyes on them than
the Berkley Reflex E-Glass Catfish Fishing Rods. The Berkley Reflex
E-Glass Catfish Fishing Rods have the Hard Chromium guides on them so
there is no worries about knocking the eyelets of the fishing rod out
but the Berkley Glowstick does not have the hard chromium guides. We
also received in a bunch of Berkley Lighting Rod IM7 ProLite Steelhead
rods that we use for catfishing. We have been using several different
Steelhead rods for catfishing for a while now, including the Berkley
Lightning Rod and the Eagle Claw Granger X Series (Eagle Claw GRX)
Steelhead Rods. We also received in a bunch of Abu Garcia 6500C3
Fishing Reels as well. I am looking forward to testing out the Berkley
Glowstick Fishing Rods and the Berkley Lightning Rod IM7 Prolite
Steelhead Fishing Rods. I will post reviews of these products in the
near future once I have had them on the water for a day or two.

SUMMER NIGHT CATFISHING IS HERE!!!!
Summer
Fishing for North Texas Catfish is in full swing. Daytime temperatures
are blistering hot but you can beat the heat and still go night fishing
with North Texas Catfish Guide Service on a Guided Catfish Fishing
Trips. How about a night fishing trip rod and reel fishing for Trophy
Flathead Catfish, or a rod and reel trip fishing for Trophy Flathead
Catfish and Freshwater Redfish (Red Drum), or fishing for Blue Catfish.
The fish have been biting great on Cedar Creek Reservoir, Eagle
Mountain Lake and Lake Fairfield. Flathead Catfish, Redfish (Fairfield)
and Blue Catfish Bites have all been excellent on these lakes, Brazos
River Flathead Catfish will be ramping up soon as well.. Channel
Catfish are spawning on most of the lakes we fish. If you would like to
fish for channel catfish we can fish the rip rap for spawning channel
catfish, this will last for the next few weeks. Now is a great time to
take a guided catfish fishing trip at night with North Texas Catfish
Guide Service. We start in the evening when things start cooling off
and when the sun goes down things are nice and cool with a breeze
blowing across the lake.

I
fished clients tonight on Lake Lewisville. The channel catfish on Lake
Lewisville are moving into their spawning areas. The fish have not
completely transitioned into their spawning pattern yet but they are
starting to move in. The channel catfish we caught were much smaller
than usual but should increase in size over the next week or two as
they begin to move into their spawning beds. The blue catfish were
scattered and not stacked up on the humps and points like they should
have been. There was a severe storm coming in and the winds picked up
to about 30 miles per hour and we had lighting all around the North end
of the lake so we opted to get off of Lake Lewisville early and
reschedule for later this week.

North
Texas Catfish Guide Service is offering guided catfish fishing trips on
Lake Fairfield for Flathead Catfish and Freshwater Redfish (Red Drum).
We have been catching good numbers of Trophy Flathead Catfish on Rod
and Reel on our Texas Guided Catfish Fishing Trips and also good
numbers of Freshwater Redfish on Rod and Reel at Lake Fairfield. Both
the Flathead Catfish and the Redfish (Red Drum) put up a great fight
and will stretch your line for a great fight. If your wanting to catch
a Trophy Catfish then night fishing for Flathead Catfish on Rod and
Reel is a great option. If your looking for a Lake Fairfield Catfish
Fishing Guide or a Lake Fairfield Redfish fishing guide then give North
Texas Catfish Guide Service a call at 817-306-0055 or 817-946-1777.

Catfishing has been good the last few weeks. I have been fishing Cedar
Creek Lake and Eagle
Mountain Lake for the past few weeks and Jackie has been
fishing Cedar
Creek Lake and Lake Fairfield. I intend to try and get moved
back to Lake
Lewisville
sometime in the next week or so to start doing some more Lake
Lewisville Catfish Fishing Trips again in the near future.
We
have been night fishing for the most part, but I have done some day
trips over the last week since it seems to have temporarily cooled off
a bit making it at least tolerable to be fishing during the day. I
don't expect that will last long at all.
The
fishing is typical of summer catfishing in Texas, we are catching good
numbers of blue catfish and channel catfish on rod and reel fishing
shallow water right now. The catfish across the board have been some
really good size catfish and. We have also been doing some rod and reel
fishing for flathead catfish with some nice flathead catfish (yelllow
catfish, app, opp) being caught. On Monday 05.30.2005 we landed a 37 Lb
Flathead Catfish, an 11 Lb Flathead Catfish a dozen or so blue catfish
at Eagle
Mountain Lake over the course of about 2 hours fishing (it
was just a short fun trip for me).
We
have openings available for night fishing for blue catfish, channel
catfish and flathead catfish on rod and reel and also jug fishing trips
available. If your interested in fishing Lake Fairfield we can fish
Channel Catfish, Rod and Reel for Flathead Catfish and also catch some
Freshwater Redfish (Red Drum). If you have never caught a Flathead
Catfish on rod and reel they put up a great fight. Redfish (Red Drum)
at Lake Fairfield are also abundunt and put up a great fight. If your
wanting to go out and get your line stretched this is a great catfish
fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service.
We
are now pre booking for early fall cormorant
catfishing
trips (fishing the birds) and also for winter Trophy Blue Catfish Trips
on Rod and Reel in North Texas. North Texas Catfish Guide Service is
known for producing Trophy
Catfish and will definately put you on some Excellent Trophy
Blue Catfish on Rod and Reel. Trophy
Blue Catfish Trips are catch and release only on all catfish
over 10 pounds.
I
still need to get the website updated but please keep in mind that we
offer Richland Chambers guided catfish fishing trips, Lake Fairfield
Guided Catfish Fishing Trips and Trinity River Guided Catfish Fishing
Trips in the Richland Chambers Tailrace.

I
finally got around to getting my decals on my boat last week. It
reall turned out great and Mike Covington of Texoma Signs did a great
job getting them all done for me. They really do great work. You can
visit their website at www.texomasigns.com I highly reccomend them for
boat lettering, decals, signs, banners and magnetic signs for cars and
trucks. Texoma Signs has done a lot of work for me in the past and I
have always been 110% satisfied. We are still 110% Satisfied with our
2005 Xpress HD22CC From West
Boats.
This Xpress HD22CC is an amazing rig and has exceeded my expectations.
It handles well in rough water, runs well in shallow water, will run
wide open on 30+ MPH Gale winds and is layed out perfectly. The Yamaha
115 Horsepower 4 Stroke engine is also great. This is our first boat
with a 4 Stroke Motor and I don't have enough good things to say about
it.

5.30.2005
I finally got my new Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holders installed on the Xpress HD22CC. The
new Bee Ready
Fishing Rod Holders are made of stainless steel and anoidized
aluminum unlike the older Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holders that were powder coated. The older Bee Ready Fishing Rod
Holders
that were powder coated had tendency to rust but since these are
stainless steel and anodized aluminum there will no longer be that
problem. We used the Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holder
Risers on this boat with with extra bases so we can move the fishing
rod holders around the boat to different located. I have always mounted
my Bee Ready Fishing Rod Holders on the gunwales, but now using these
risers it is much more comfortable when fishing standing up like we do
most of the time because it keeps the fishing rod holders up higher in
the air. The risers are a little light weight for fishing for trophy
catfish so we will not be using the risers on our Trophy Blue Catfish
Trips. I have 10 Bee ready Fishing Rod Holders in the single rod model
that I will be mounting straight to the gunwale for fishing for Trophy
Blue Catfish to ensure durability.
One
thing I will add about the Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holders
removable risers is they have tendency to come out of the bases at
times (part of this is because I have tendency to be a little rough
pulling my rods out of the fishing rod holders). I took some of the
foam swimming pool noodles and cut them into one foot pieces and ran
the square tubing from the riser through the center of the foam
swimming pool noodle. I tested this the other day and the foam is more
than enough to float the riser and rod holder should it accidentally
fall in the water, and will even float the riser and rod holder with a
rod in it. You can get more information on Bee Ready Fishing Rod
Holders or order Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holders from their website at www.beereadyllc.com.
These are hands down the best fishing rod holders available on the
market and we are proud to have Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holders as a sponsor.

The
blue catfish are still biting great. Catching a lot of nice fish on
rod and reel on our guided catfish fishing trips. Things have been
really busy so we have not had a lot of time fo an update.
Here
is a photo from 5/9/2005 on Cedar Creek Lake. North Texas Catfish Guide
Service fished clients on 05.09.2005 and 05.10.2005 and had great
guided catfish fishing trips both days.

4.26.2005
It
has been a while since I did an update. It has been eight years
since we had a vacation and we went on a trip at the last minute to
Cozumel Mexico for a few days to squeeze in some fun in the sun and
some fishing of course. I chartered the Grand Slam fishing boat in
Cozumel and went deep see fishing in hopes of hooking a giant Blue
Marlin. I had a great day on the water with Augusto, Jose and Muguel
aboard the Grand Slam. I managed to catch several Yellowfin Tuna, a
wahoo and hooked a Marlin that threw the hook after only a few minutes.
Still all in all was a great day on the water and a very interesting
experience to get out and see how deep sea fishing works. I really
enjoyed catching the Tuna and Wahoo in Cozumel Mexico. I had no idea
that a Tuna put up that kind of fight, it was really unbeleivable.
Back
to the important things, NORTH TEXAS CATFISHING. The Spring Blue
Catfish bite is still in full swing and we are still catching a lot of
really nice catfish. We have still been producing limits of catfish on
our guided catfish fishing trips and the blue catfish bite has been
fast and furious. We have had a couple of days recently where the bite
has been slow after the cold fronts but all in all the fishing has been
excellent.
Things
are up to speed and we are now offering guided catfish fishing trips on
Richland Chambers Reservoir and guided catfish fishing trips on Lake
Fairfield. Jackie Kennedy of North Texas Catfish Guide Service will be
the Richland Chambers Catfish Fishing Guided and Lake Fairfield Catfish
Fishing Guide. Richland Chambers Catfishing Trips will be for Blue
Catfish and Lake Fairfield Catfish Fishing Trips will be for Channel
Catfish and Flathead Catfish. The Flathead Catfish Trips (also called
yellow catfish) will be rod and reel fishing for Flathead Catfish.
These are not trips that are targeted for shear numbers of fish but are
focused on Trophy Catfish. We still continue to practice catch and
release on all catfish over ten pounds.
We
are also beginning to gear up for the Summer fishing trips in June,
July and August with North Texas catfish Guide Service. Summer fishing
trips for catfish with North Texas Catfish Guide Service will be done
at night and rod and reel fishing is typically excellent on these
trips. This is a great way to get out and enjoy the summer fishing and
night fishing is the best way to stay cool and comfortable and out of
the hot Texas sun during the warmest part of the year. We will still
offer our daytime guided catfish fishing trips in June, July and August
but the night fishing is definately more comfortable.
If
your interested in booking a trip give us a call at 817-306-0055 or
817-946-1777 or email us at TexasCatfishGuide@sbcglobal.net

Spring
Catfishing is still excellent. We have been so busy fishing we have
been unable to get a lot of reports and updates done. If you interested
in a guided catfish fishing trip we are still catching a lot of nice
catfish and good numbers of fish. Everyone we have fished in the last
month has limited out on blue catfish. There is still time to get in a
spring fishing trip for blue catfish with North Texas Catfish Guide
Service on Cedar Creek, Lake Lewisville or Richland Chambers. Rod and
reel fishing for numbers of fish does not get any better than this.
We
just got in a new shipment of Bee
Ready Fishing Rod Holders for our New Xpress HD22CC from West Boats.
These new Bee Ready Rod Holders are stainless steel and will not rust.
This is an imressive improvement to an already great product. We will
post some photos of these new Bee Ready Fishing Rod Holders when we get
some pictures taken. North Texas Catfish Guide Service is proud to be
sponsored by Bee Ready
Fishing Rod Holders.
North
Texas Catfish guide service has also been doing some rod and reel
fishing for flathead catfish over the past few weeks. We will offer
some rod and reel fishing trips for Flathead Catfish this summer on
night fishing trips on some of the lakes that we offer our guided
catfish fishing trips. We are getting a lot of calls about night
fishing this summer. We do offer night fishing trips as these are great
trips to fish in the heat of the summer without burning up from the
Texas heat. In fact, on many of the night fishing trips for catfish
with North Texas Catfish Guide Service it is not common to need a light
windbreaker or coat to stay warm. We will be night fishing for Blue
Catfish, Channel Catfish and Flathead Catfish starting in the summer.
We will still offer our guided catfish fishing trips during the day as
well.
I
got out on Eagle
Mountain Lake
04.24.05 for the first time in a very long time and did some rod and
reel fishing for Blue Catfish. The fish have been thrown out of their
pattern some due to the cold front that came through on Friday and the
cool nights. We did manage to catch some nice blue catfish on rod and
reel using fresh cut shad. The blue catfish were biting fairly
agressive and we caught a lot of nice fish but had to cut the trip
short because of the rain coming in. All in all was a great days catch
on rod and reel on Eagle Mountain Lake for such a short fishing trip.
Here
are some photos of recent trips with North Texas Catfish Guide Service.
We don't have all of the photos together but these will give you an
idea of the catfish we have been catching on our guided catfish fishing
trips with North Texas Catfish Guide Service.

Limestone give us a call to book a guided catfish fishing trip with

Chad
Ferguson's New Xpress HD22CC Aluminum Catfish Boat is now in. Chad
Ferguson will be running his guided catfish fishing trips from the
HD22CC Center Console Aluminum Boat from West Boats.
The HD22CC is equipped with a Yamaha 115 HP 4 Stroke Outboard, Lowrance
Electronics and Minn Kota Trolling Motor. This Xpress Boat is extra big
and wide for fishing rough water and will run in shallow water as well.
The boat has extra large livewells to hold lots of catfish and plenty
of room to move around while catfishing.
I
am also pleased to announce that I am now part of Xpress Boats Pro
Staff in addition to our other line of great sponsors!

Mesquite Texas.

I spent some time on the phone today with
Luke Clayton, well known outdoor writer and host of Hardcore Outdoor
Talk
on the Ranch Radio FM 106.9, FM107.1 and FM 95.9 in North Texas. Chad
Ferguson of North Texas Catfish Guide Service will be on the April 9th
show of Hardcore Outdoor Talk with Luke Clayton Saturday April 9th from
8am to 9am. Make sure and tune in to Luke Clayton's
Hardcore Outdoor Talk
for a current catfish fishing report for Cedar Creek Lake and Lake
Lewisville. We will be doing more with Luke in the future for his radio
show.
I
am also pleased to announce that in the very near future we will be
adding Richland Chambers, Lake Fairfield and The Trinity River/Richland
Chambers Tailrace to the lakes that we offer our guided catfish fishing
trips on with North Texas Catfish Guide Service. Richland Chambers is
an excellent lake for Blue Catfish and Lake Fairfield is an excellent
lake for Channel Catfish. We are still a few weeks out from getting
ready for addiing these lakes but check back often and we will post the
information here when we start the Richland Chambers Guided Catfish
Fishing Trips and Lake Fairfield Guided Catfish Fishing Trips.
The
blue catfish are biting EXCELLENT and we have a few spots available so
if you want to catch a nice mess of catfish, now is the time to get in
on the action.
3.21.2005
My
customers had an automobile accident on the way to the lake this
morning so I went fishing for blue catfish by myself. I had a great
time as this is the first time I have been able to fish on my own in
about six months. The blue catfish are starting to move into their
spring pattern and things should be hot and heavy into the spring
pattern in the next week. I caught a lot of nice blue catfish yesterday
and had to cut back on the number of fishing rods I was using because I
could not keep up with them all.
3.20.2005
Ryan
and Randy Smith spent the day catfishing with North Texas Catfish Guide
Service today on Cedar Creek Lake fishing for blue catfish. The catfish
are not quite in their spring pattern yet but the fish are biting well.
Ryan who is back home from college in Oklahoma caught his biggest fish
ever on his catfish guide trip which was 13Lbs.

Had to cancel our clients guided catfish
fishing trip with North Texas Catfish Guide Service on Lake
Lewisville today due to high winds that were blowing just as
hard as yesterday and it just was not safe to be on the water.
3.12.2005
Fished two clients today on a guided catfish
fishing trip on Cedar
Creek Lake. The morning started out pretty good fishing for
shallow water catfish on Cedar
Creek Lake,
but things quickly took a turn for the worse. We caught about eight or
ten nice blue catfish and one of my clients caught an 11 Lb Blue
Catfish which was his biggest catfish ever, but then we started taking
waves over the side of the boat when the wind picked up. There was
easily 25-30 mile per hour sustained winds and it was very dangerous to
be on the water. We made several other attempts to get into the spring
catfish bite but the water was so rough nobody could even tell when
they were getting a bite so we had to hide out of the wind the rest of
the day.

The
catfish are on the move and the fishing is getting fast and furious. We
have some dates available for April and May still to get in on the
action fishing for blue catfish. Fishing will be fast and furious,
again, if your looking for lots of numbers of catfish then the spring
catfish fishing is the best action for you most of our guided catfish
fishing trips in the spring with North Texas Catfish Guide Service will
result in limits of catfish for everyone in the boat and lots of really
good sized blue catfish and channel catfish. North Texas Catfish Guide
Service should be featured either at the end March or in April on
fishing for Blue Catfish under the cormorant roosts and Trophy
Catfishing
for BIg Texas Trophy Blue Catfish on the Southwest Outdoors Report on
Fox Sports Southwest. The Show runs at 10:30 on Thursday nights and
6:00 Saturday mornings on Fox Sports Southwest.

catfish fishing trips in North Texas with North Texas Catfish Guide
Service for Big

If your looking to catch a Trophy Blue Catfish then you need to give us
a call. We are catching some huge blue catfish and catching a lot of
good numbers of fish as well. Photos of big trophy blue catfish from
March 5th and March 6th are below. If your looking for a spring catfish
trip, now is the time to call, because we are booking up fast. The
spring pattern is starting and fishing will be fast and furious for the
next month or two. The water will need to warm up some for the
catfishing to peak but things are GREAT right now.

I
spent the day yesterday with Barry Stokes with Fox Sports Southwest
filming some segments for several TV Shows to begin airing in Late
March or April. Barry is the former host of Outdoor Trails Television
and the new show to begin airing in March is The Southwest Outdoors
Report. It will air on Thursdaya at 10:30 Pm and Saturdays at 6:00 Am.
Barry Spent the day with Chad Ferguson and Jackie Kennedy of North
Texas Catfish Guide Service doing some North Texas Catfishing. We
filmed several segments for several different shows about fishing for
catfish and different techniques to use. The first segment to run will
be on Cormorant Catfishing (also called "fishing the birds" or "fishing
the water turkeys"). We caught some shallow water blues cormorant
catfishing under a cork using Sure Shot Catfish Punch bait and also
with some white spinner bait skirts. Barry also did some fishing for Trophy
Blue Catfish
with North Texas Catfish Guide Service and altough the weather was less
than cooperative we managed to get a nice mess of box fish in the boat
and also boated several 10 Lb Blue Catfish. The bigger trophy blue
catfish have slowed down some over the past few weeks but there is
still some good spring fishing in store for the very near future.

We
received a shipment in today from our sponsor Eagle Claw Fishing Tackle
including a bunch of Granger Rods and GRX Rods for Spring Catfish
Fishing and some heavy water eagle rods for the big trophy blue catfish
as well. We are getting geared up and ready for some fast paced spring
catfish fishing trips!

Things
have been somewhat slow with the catfish the last few days. Sunday was
a bad day with no wind. Lake Lewisville was as slick as glass, which
almost always makes for slower days when fishing for catfish. We got
our new Minn Kota
Maxxum 70
in today and will be putting it on the boat. The Maxxum 70 has Minn
Kota's new 3X Steering system on it so I am looking forward to trying
that out. We also have our new Lowrance X135 mounted on the front deck
and are very pleased with this Lowrance
graph. We will be out on Cedar Creek several times this week with
clients and also on Cedar
Creek and Lake
Lewisville this weekend with clients for some more fishing
for Trophy
Blue Catfish.
The water has really warmed up at Lake Lewsiville in the last few days
and I am expecting the spring catfish bite to start early this year. We
still have some dates available for spring Blue Catfish Trips and
Channel Catfish Trips if you want to get in on the action. These will
be good catfish fishing trips with North Texas Catfish Guide Service
primarily for Blue Catfish and will usually result in good numbers of
catfish and lots of good sized blue catfish. If you have never done a
spring catfishing trip with us your missing out. We have a couple of
big things going on this week and will be making some big announcements
later in the week so check back soon!
2.22.2005

I
took two clients out today for a Trophy Blue Catfish Trip, Larry and
his son Cayde. Larry gave Cayde the Trophy Blue Catfish trip with North
Texas Catfish Guide Service for his 31st birthday. The fishing for big
blue catfish had been kind of slow last week with the warm front we had
but managed to pull off a great guided catfish fishing trip for Larry
and Cayde with several nice Trophy Blue Catfish being caught and also
sent them home with a gallon of fillets from the smaller blue catfish
we managed to catch in between big trophy blue catfish (trophy blue
catfish over 10 lbs are catch and release only). Here are some photos
of Larry and Cayde's trip and some of the bigger blue catfish they
caught on their guided catfish fishing trip with North Texas Catfish
Guide Service. All of the Trophy Blue Catfish are caught on Rod and
Reel and released alive after photographs. You can check out our other pictures
of catfish here

We
just completed the updated and redesign of our website trying to make
things look a little better and provide more valuable information on
fishing for Texas Catfish with North Texas Catfish Guide Service. We
are still catching some nice Trophy
Blue Catfish
on Cedar Creek and Lake Lewisville, but the fishing has slowed down
some since the warmer weather hit last week. We have updated our photo
page
with some additional pictures of catfish caught on our North Texas
Catfish Guide Service guided catfish fishing trips. We do not have all
of the catfish
pictures up yet but will try and get them up as soon as
possible.
02.15.2005
We
are please to announce that we are now on Lowrance Electronics
Pro Staff. We have been fishing the Lowrance LCX15MT Sonar for quite
some time and are very excited to be a part of Lowrance Pro Staff and
have them as a sponsor of North Texas Catfish Guide Service. We have
new Lowrance X-135 headed out to put on the nose of our catfish guide
boat to make catching bait a lot easier and will be upgrading our
console sonar to the Lowrance LXC-17M.

would like to thank everyone for their feedback and support they have
given us on our catfish fishing reports provided by North Texas Catfish

Texas area on Lake Lewsiville, Cedar Creek Lake, Lake Grapevine, Eagle
Mountain Lake, Lake Ray Roberts and the Brazos River. If you listen on

Some
of the clients of North Texas Catfish Guide Service have contaacted us
recently looking for information on cast nets and preparing a cast net.
You have to prepare a cast net for catching shad for catfish bait after
you purchase it so we have added a page on preparing
a cast net. Click
here to view the information on preparing a cast net. We will
add a video in the future on how to throw a cast net as well.
