Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What lakes do you provide guided catfish fishing trips on?

A: We offer guided fishing trips for catfish only on several North Texas area lakes including Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Worth, Lake Lewisville and the Brazos River. Lake Worth trips are catch and release only.
Q: When is the best time of the year for a guided catfishing trip in Texas?
A: We fish all year around and the catfish bite all year long. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter are all great for catching Texas Catfish? It does not matter what time of the year it is the catfishing is generally good. If you have a specific requirement (like wanting  to catch trophy catfish) get with us for additional details.
Q: If I catch a big catfish while fishing with your catfish guide service can I keep it.
A: No, we practice trophy catch and release on all Trophy Blue Catfish over ten pounds. If you want to keep the catfish under ten pounds that you catch you are more than welcome to do so.
Q: What do I need to bring
A: Food and drinks in a small cooler and a fishing license. We provide everything else.
Q: Do I have to have a fishing license.
A: Texas state law requires that you have a license. This is your responsibility and we will not check or ask you about it. We do get checked by Texas Parks and Wildlife and if you do not have a license you will get a ticket and it will be in your name. You can expect this to ticket to cost about 7 times what a fishing license costs. You can buy your Texas fishing license from any local Academy, Wal-Mart, Bass Pro Shop, Cabela’s or online from Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Q: Can we bring beer on the boat
A: Yes, as long as it is enjoyed in moderation and it is not in glass bottles.Q: How many people can you fish at one time.
A: In one boat we prefer not have more than 5 people. There are times I will fish with 6 people on one boat but they are limited.
We have multiple boats available for larger groups.
Q: How many catfish will I catch?
A: We always do our very best to get you catch the most amount of catfish possible on our catfish fishing trips but it varies from day to day. That is why it’s called fishing and not catching. We will do whatever it takes to get you on the fish when you fish with North Texas Catfish Guide service and help you catch as many catfish as possible.
Q: How many catfish can I keep from our guided catfishing trip?
A: The limit on catfish in Texas is 25 per person per day (not including the guide).
Q: Will you clean the catfish for us after our guided catfish fishing trip?
A: Yes, if you want to keep the catfish that you catch (that are less than 10 lbs) we are more than happy to fillet and bag your catfish for you at the end of your trip.

Q: Can I bring my children with me on the guided catfish fishing trip?

A: Yes, we are happy to take kid’s fishing with us on our catfish guide trips. All we ask is that you bring proper fitting life jackets for the children on your trip and they must be worn at all times while on the boat.
Q: I would like to give a catfish guide trip as a gift, do you offer gift certificates?
A: Yes, we do have catfish guide trip gift certificates available. Please email us for more information at chad@learntocatchcatfish.com
Q: I have a large group that I would like to take on a catfish guide trip. Can you do this?
A: Yes, we can accommodate large groups, church groups and corporate guided fishing trips. Please contact us and give us some more information on what your trying to do and how many people will be fishing and we will make arrangements for you with a number of other reputable fishing guides that we work with.
Q: When are you available for a catfish guide trip?
A: Trips are available 7 days a week. We do not fish on Thanksgiving, Christmas or on holiday weekends during the summer months.
Q: What is required to book a trip and how do I do it?
A: Contact us and let us know what date/dates your interested in and we will let you know if we are available or not and if not provide a list of other possible dates (we recommend contacting us as far in advance as possible because we book up fast).
Once the dates are confirmed we will email you a form to fill out. This will require your contact information, verification of the agreed upon date and your credit card information.  A credit card number is held for the deposit, but the card is not charged.
Q: How much is the deposit?
A: The deposit is $150, again your card is not charged. If you cancel with less than 10 days notice and we cannot fill the date, or you just don’t show up we will charge your card for the amount of the deposit.
Q: How much does the trip cost?
A: A full day trip is $375 and a half day trip is $275. These rates are for 2 people. There is an additional charge of $75 for additional people (up to 4 people).
Full Day 2 People – $375
Full Day 3 People – $450
Full Day 4 People – $525
Full Day 5 People – $600
Half Day 2 People – $275
Half Day 3 People – $350
Half Day 4 People – $425
Half Day 5 People – $500
Q: How Do I Pay
A: The cost of the trip is payable in full in cash the day that you fish. Please note again that we do not charge your card for the deposit, so you will need to pay the rates as listed above the day of your trip.
Q: Do you take credit cards?
A:. Yes but there is a $25 charge for credit card processing.
Q: What happens if the weather is bad the day of our catfish guide trip?
A: The fish are already wet so they do not care if it is raining or not. As a general rule, usually the worse the weather is the better the fishing is. We want our customers to be comfortable. Cancellation due to weather is at our discretion only.
Q: Do you offer guaranteed catch?
A: No. This is an advertising ploy that many guides use and in most cases this means that they will assure you get one fish in the boat. We will do the best we can to get you on good numbers of fish but this does not always happen. Some days are great, some days are good and some days are bad. It costs us the same amount of money to operate whether the fish bite or not. This is how we make a living, and we want you to be happy, but we also cannot control what the fish do and whether they bite or not. We get 99% of our business from repeat and referral business and want you to be happy but we again, cannot control the fish.
Q: What time do you start?
A: The start time varies but generally from first light to 9:00 in the morning. This varies based on what the fish are doing. We try to start based on when the bite will be best. This can change from week to week.If you still have questions, please feel free to email us or call us at 817-522-3804
