First of all, good news! Went to the Ortho Doctor and my arm wasn’t broken, or at least that is what they think at this point. I am still hurting pretty bad and have limited use of my left hand but it seems to be getting better so I am still out catfishing.
The big rains we received last week were much needed and both Lake Lewisville and Eagle Mountain Lake are slightly over pool right. This is good news and bad news heading into the fall and winter.
The good news is the big rains have fired the catfishing back up on Eagle Mountain Lake and I suspect the channel catfish bite will remain good for at least the next month or so. The blue catfish bite is consistent but not producing record numbers which is pretty typical for this time of the year.
The bad news is I hate heading into the winter trophy blue catfishing on either one of these lakes with the water levels so high. I really prefer both lakes to be below pool as these almost always seem to be the most productive winters for trophy blue catfish. Obviously both lakes will likely drop some between now and then and we will still be catching some great catches of trophy blue cats on both lakes but the pattern is much more predictable when the lakes are a little lower (and it is also much easier to catch bait as well).
I have been getting a lot of calls about Lake Lewisville trips and Lake Worth trips as well. I plan on fishing Eagle Mountain exclusively for the next few weeks and then when the water begins to cool am going to go with Gordon to Lake Worth and Lake Lewisville so we can do some scouting. I expect to be up and running on both lakes around November 1st at the very latest, but it may be sooner.
In the past we have been able to catch some MONSTER blues on Lake Lewisville in late October so I am really looking forward to it, and am already starting to get all of my gear together.
I am starting to get a lot of calls and emails for people inquiring about winter trips so if you are interested in booking a trophy catfish trip make sure you call soon so you can get in for the best available dates on any of these lakes.
